{"id":5956,"date":"2026-04-21T09:48:45","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T07:48:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.npa.gov.zm\/?p=5956"},"modified":"2026-04-21T09:48:53","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T07:48:53","slug":"lusaka-subordinate-court-finds-two-guilty-of-rape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.npa.gov.zm\/index.php\/2026\/04\/21\/lusaka-subordinate-court-finds-two-guilty-of-rape\/","title":{"rendered":"LUSAKA SUBORDINATE COURT FINDS TWO GUILTY OF RAPE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Lusaka | April 20, 26 &#8211; On the April 16, 2026, the Lusaka Subordinate Court convicted Elias Zulu and Davies Kawala for the offence of rape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The matter was presided over by Honourable Mwanfuli and prosecuted by Mrs. Monde Muyoba-Chizongo. The convicts were represented by the Legal Aid Board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Court heard that the two convicts were entrusted with the responsibility of escorting an 18-year-old victim home at around 21:00 hours, after her friend requested that they ensure her safe arrival. Instead of fulfilling this duty of care, the accused persons took turns sexually assaulting the victim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The incident was reported the following day, and medical examination confirmed that the victim had been sexually assaulted. As a result of the assault, the victim became pregnant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After considering the evidence, the Court found that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and convicted both accused persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The matter has since been committed to the High Court for sentencing. Under Zambian law, the offence of rape carries a minimum sentence of 15 years imprisonment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This case highlights the grave violation of trust and the serious consequences of sexual violence.
