Lusaka | September 30, 2026 – What does integrity look like in the everyday life of a prosecution officer? Sometimes it is about major decisions. At other times, it may be as simple as accepting a gift, declaring a conflict of interest, reporting suspected wrongdoing or deciding what to do when a colleague is handed K500 for lunch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These practical questions are at the heart of a nationwide engagement by the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) Integrity Committee, aimed at bringing the Authority\u2019s integrity agenda closer to its officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first cohort, drawn from Luangwa, Chongwe, Kafue, Siavonga and Chirundu Districts, is participating in a full-day engagement at the NPA Conference Room in Lusaka under the theme \u201cChange Management, Digital Transformation and Integrity Committee.\u201d
The programme, running from 09:00 to 16:30 hours, focuses on translating NPA policies into practical guidance for workplace decisions and conduct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opening the engagement, Integrity Committee Chairperson and NPA Chief Administrator, Ms. Cassandra Soko, introduced participants to the Committee\u2019s mandate and the Authority\u2019s integrity agenda, emphasising ethical conduct, accountability and public trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussions have deliberately moved beyond policy documents to real-life workplace situations. Ms. Soko illustrated this through an example involving employees reportedly receiving K500 for lunch, prompting discussion on when an apparently ordinary benefit may raise an integrity concern and how an officer should respond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The approach has encouraged active participation, with officers interrogating the issues, including through virtual participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants are being taken through key components of the NPA integrity framework, including the Gifts Policy, Whistleblower Policy, Conflict of Interest Policy and Code of Ethics. They are also exploring change management and digital transformation, reflecting the need for the Authority to adapt while maintaining its professional and ethical standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learning is being made interactive through quizzes, with branded prizes for participants who emerge victorious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lusaka programme will continue over the next two days as the Committee engages other districts before taking the initiative to NPA offices across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The message running through the engagement is clear that integrity is not a document to be kept on a shelf. It must be understood, discussed and applied in the courtroom, in the office, in dealings with colleagues and the public, and in the everyday decisions that shape confidence in the institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
