DPP CLOSES FINANCIAL INVESTIGATION AND ASSET RECOVERY CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT RETREAT

Lusaka | June 27, 2026 – The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) yesterday officially closed a two-week retreat dedicated to developing Zambia’s National Curriculum on Financial Investigation and Asset Recovery, describing the initiative as a major step towards strengthening the country’s fight against financial crime.

The retreat brought together experts from various law enforcement and criminal justice institutions to develop ten comprehensive training modules and a Trainers’ Guide aimed at enhancing the capacity of financial investigators and asset recovery practitioners.

In closing the workshop, the DPP commended participants for their dedication and professionalism, noting that the curriculum responds to the increasing complexity of financial crimes while promoting effective investigation, prosecution and recovery of criminal assets.

The DPP also expressed appreciation to SecFin Africa for its technical and financial support, emphasising that the partnership would have a lasting impact on Zambia’s financial crime response.

Speaking on behalf of SecFin Africa and CIVIPOL, Mr. Tuemay Desta praised the participants for producing more than 800 pages of training materials in just two weeks, attributing the achievement to their professionalism, teamwork and commitment.

He noted that the curriculum would strengthen financial investigations by equipping investigators with practical skills to identify, investigate and recover proceeds of crime, while outlining the next steps, including expert review, validation and eventual national rollout of the curriculum.

Acting Director General of the Financial Intelligence Centre, Mr. Brian Kauseni, said the newly developed training materials would strengthen institutional capacity and support Zambia’s preparations for the 2027 Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG) Mutual Evaluation.

The retreat was supported through the SecFin Africa Programme, funded by the European Union, Germany and France, with technical assistance provided by GIZ and CIVIPOL.
