Chipata | February 28, 2026 – The National Prosecution Authority (NPA), Eastern Province Office, is proudly participating in this year’s Nc’wala Traditional Ceremony in Chipata District, joining thousands of Ngoni people and visitors gathered to celebrate one of Zambia’s most significant cultural events.
Led by the Deputy Chief State Advocate who heads the Province, Mr. Richard Masempela, the NPA team has been actively involved in activities surrounding the ceremony since Wednesday, February 25, 2026. The celebrations reach their climax today, Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Mtenguleni Village – the traditional seat of the Ngoni Kingdom.
Nc’wala, which means “eating of the new harvest,” is a sacred thanksgiving ceremony where the Ngoni people express gratitude for the first fruits of the farming season. At the heart of the ceremony is the Ngoni Paramount Chief, Inkosi yamaNkosi Mpezeni, who symbolically tastes the new harvest before it is declared fit for the community, a powerful gesture of unity, renewal and appreciation.
The days leading to the main ceremony have been marked by vibrant exhibitions, cultural showcases and community engagement activities, reflecting both the rich heritage of the Ngoni people and the growing participation of institutions from across the country.
Like many other government and corporate entities, the NPA Eastern Province Office is present in solidarity with the community it serves.
For the NPA, participation in Nc’wala is more than ceremonial. It is an opportunity to stand alongside the people of Eastern Province in celebrating culture, unity and shared identity, values that resonate with the Authority’s commitment to justice, service and community engagement.
As the ceremony culminates today with traditional rituals, warrior dances and the Paramount Chief’s address, the NPA remains honoured to be part of this enduring cultural legacy.
We invite you to stay locked in as we bring you highlights from today’s main event at Mtenguleni.
