In a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered during the official launch of the Guidelines for the Prosecution of Economic and Financial Crimes, Ms. Mwangala Iris Mwala, Principal State Advocate in the Taxation and Financial Crimes Department of the National Prosecution Authority (NPA), expressed deep appreciation to the various stakeholders whose contributions made the new guidelines a reality.
Ms. Mwala extended special thanks to the EnACT Zambia Programme, under the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), for their instrumental support in the development of the guidelines. “Without your support, these guidelines would not have been possible,” Ms. Mwala stated, recognising the crucial role that GIZ played in shaping a framework that will greatly enhance Zambia’s capacity to effectively prosecute economic and financial crimes.
She emphasised that the guidelines will serve as a critical resource for prosecutors, enabling them to handle complex financial crime cases with increased confidence and expertise. “These guidelines provide us with the tools we need to navigate the intricate world of financial crimes, ensuring that we can tackle even the most sophisticated cases head-on,” Ms. Mwala noted.
Ms. Mwala also acknowledged the dedicated efforts of her colleagues within the NPA and the Anti-Corruption Commission, who worked tirelessly to bring the guidelines to fruition. “Your hard work, expertise, and commitment to this project have been invaluable,” she said. “These guidelines are a testament to your dedication and will significantly enhance our ability to combat financial crime.”
The vote of thanks concluded with Ms. Mwala reaffirming the NPA’s commitment to utilising the new guidelines as a cornerstone in the fight against corruption and financial impropriety, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration among key stakeholders to strengthen Zambia’s prosecutorial efforts.
The event marked a crucial moment in Zambia’s judicial framework, equipping the NPA with the necessary tools to confront financial crimes with a new level of professionalism and effectiveness.
