The National Prosecution Authority (NPA) has filed an application to forfeit to the State property linked to former Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Malanji following his conviction by the Lusaka Subordinate Court on September 3, 2025.
The assets cited for forfeiture include a Bell 430 Helicopter, a Bell 206 Jet Ranger Helicopter, three luxury homes in Silverest Gardens, and USD 215,000 in cash. These properties were deemed proceeds of crime following Malanji’s conviction on seven counts of “Possession of Property Reasonably Suspected of Being Proceeds of Crime” pursuant to the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act No. 19 of 2010.
The application is supported by an affidavit sworn by Mukelebai Kwaleyela, Director of the Anti-Money Laundering Investigations Unit (AMLIU) at the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC).
This move highlights the NPA’s commitment to preventing criminals from profiting from illegal activities. A hearing for the forfeiture application is expected in the coming days.
