The National Prosecution Authority today held a legal awareness dialogue with the Chinese Embassy in Zambia, just days after closing its inaugural National Prosecution Authority Week.
The one-day session focused on the NPA’s mandate and on offences commonly encountered by Chinese nationals and businesses operating in Zambia.
Prosecutors from the Asset Forfeiture, Economic and Financial Crimes, and Environmental and Wildlife Crimes Departments led presentations grounded in practical examples, common compliance risks and how to stay within Zambian law.
The Embassy welcomed the dialogue as timely and useful, noting that it had given participants a clearer understanding of their legal obligations when living and doing business in Zambia.
Speaking during the engagement, Chinese Embassy Counsellor Ms. Wang Li thanked the NPA for the initiative and said the Embassy would translate key points into Chinese and share them widely on its social media platforms.
She added that the Embassy plans to work with relevant authorities and Chinese community structures to produce bilingual Chinese-English brochures on Zambian laws for free distribution at airports, tourist sites, restaurants and other public places.
Ms. Wang said she hoped the engagement would lay the foundation for stronger cooperation in promoting legal awareness and compliance.
For the NPA, the dialogue is part of a broader shift signaled by the launch of its Service Charter, from prosecution alone to prevention through public engagement.
