Mpulungu | May 6, 2026 — A 26-year-old woman of Mpulungu District has been sentenced to 18 months simple imprisonment after changing her plea to guilty midway through trial in a case involving a 16-year-old boy.
The matter came before the Mpika Magistrates’ Court before Honourable Andrew Longa Kasongo, with Senior Public Prosecutor Samson Chimoba Zulu and Public Prosecutor Luyako Chisi appearing for the State.
The case had already proceeded into trial, with both the juvenile victim and his sister having testified before court, when the accused person altered her plea and admitted to the offence.
Following her admission, the court convicted the accused person and sentenced her to 18 months simple imprisonment with effect from December 19, 2025.
The conviction adds to continued efforts by the National Prosecution Authority to ensure accountability in offences involving vulnerable persons, while reinforcing the importance of protecting minors from exploitation and abuse regardless of the identity of the offender.
In line with child protection considerations, details capable of identifying the juvenile victim have been withheld.
